In the mObywatel app, paying with cards and Apple Pay and Google Pay wallets will be possible

The mObywatel payment service is currently in its pilot phase, offering Blik transactions. However, it's set to expand with the inclusion of bank cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay digital wallets next year

The Polish Press Agency (PAP), in its coverage of the 'BGK for JST' conference, reports on development plans for the payment module available in the mObywatel application. Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego (BGK) operates the module. Hubert Gniadowicz, director of the digital services division at the Central Informatics Centre (COI), spoke about expanding the module's functionality during the conference.

The COI representative revealed that Blik, currently the only tool available in the mObywatel payment module, will soon be joined by bank cards. Meanwhile, next year, the list of methods will be supplemented by Apple Pay and Google Pay digital wallets. There will also be an expanded list of fees that can be paid using mObywatel, but specifics were not revealed.

Payments in the government app are in the pilot phase. This means that only residents of the selected 50 or so municipalities can use it for the time being and pay for selected obligations such as property tax, forestry tax, agricultural tax, and municipal waste management.  "These dues can be paid in a single payment or installments. In some of the municipalities using the system, it is also possible to handle overdue payments and pay fees with interest", said Hubert Gniadowicz.

According to an expert from the COI, 70 municipalities are eager to make payments available through government application. Applications are currently being accepted from further municipalities interested in participating in the pilot program. The process of launching the payments, which includes the need to adapt the municipality's IT systems, takes several months.
