Good news for Polish users who bought their smartwatches mainly for the option of Google Pay contactless payments. I was able to find out that within the next few weeks Google will start supporting their Wear OS (previously Android Wear) payment functionalities in Poland. This means that the Google Pay app will become available for some smartwatch models.

Until recently Polish users were able to use Google Pay on Huawei Watch 2, among others. However, after an operating system update in the spring of this year, some Cashless readers started complaining that Google's payment app stopped working on their devices. The company's Polish office explained that smartwatch payments were not officially supported in Europe at the time, except for Great Britain. They promised that this would change, but did not specify a date.

There aren’t many smartwatch models which support contactless payment functionalities on the Polish market. When it comes to devices that support Google Pay, apart from the Huawei Watch 2 mentioned above, we also have the TAG Heuer Connected Modular 45. However, not everyone can afford the latter - it retails for over 7,5 thousand złoty (over 1,7 thousand euro). Garmin has recently introduced a smartwatch model with a payment functionality, but it uses its own Garmin Pay solution, which is currently only available for BZ WBK customers. With a little effort, Polish users can also buy the affordable LG Watch Sport from the United States, which supported Google's payments in Poland even when they were disabled for the Huawei watch.
