Data collected by cashless.pl shows that six financial institutions already have a minimum of 2 million customers actively using banking apps on mobile devices
At the end of March 2024, financial institutions operating in the Polish market had over 24.5 million customers actively using banking mobile applications. This is an increase of over 780,000 compared to the previous quarter, as indicated by data collected by cashless.pl. In turn, the result improved by more than 2.8 million customers compared with the corresponding quarter of 2023.
The ranking is again opened by PKO BP. At the end of Q1, the largest domestic bank had more than 5.5 million IKO users. Between January and March, the institution gained almost 160,000 new active users of its app. Meanwhile, compared to Q1 2023, the result improved by more than 580,000 users.
mBank, Pekao, Santander, ING, and Millennium took further positions in the ranking. All these institutions have more than 2 million customers, each actively using banking applications (mBank exceeded the 3 million mark a few months ago). At the same time, it is worth noting that every institution included in the most recent edition improved the result from the previous quarter and provided up-to-date data.
The ranking also saw the reentry of Santander Consumer Bank (SCB), a development that holds promise for the bank's future. SCB, which does not offer accounts, managed to attract nearly 440,000 active users of the application who use it for other products such as loans, cards, or deposits. This is a clear indication of the bank's ability to diversify its offerings and cater to the evolving needs of its customers. The ranking also includes data from Zakład Usług Informatycznych Novum, a company with a long-standing presence in the banking sector. One of its notable products is the Nasz Bank application for cooperative bank customers.

We consider an active banking app user to be someone who logs into an account with its help at least once a month. There are more users of banking apps than the table below indicates, but some institutions do not provide statistics on this issue. At the same time, it is worth recalling that the number of users of banking mobile apps does not coincide with the number of customers using mobile banking. Some smartphone owners still prefer to log in to their account using a web browser. It is also worth remembering that one person can actively use several banking apps.
